Screen Time and Internet Safety

Our last Parent Workshop with Maria Ruberto discussed the differences between Screen Time and Social Media.

Screen Time is the amount of time spent in front of a screen and engagement with content.

Social Media is access to content in real time, and following and interacting with interests and likes.

Screen Time isn't going away, so how can we manage it to make our children have a positive experience and be safe?

  • Supervision MATTERS- Children need active supervision when they have screen time. Supervision can look like asking your child what they learned, what they did, who they spoke with, what they enjoyed the most, etc
  • Socialisation- Children still need to engage with socialisation online and, most importantly, in person
  • Values- What are your values at home? Why are the values important? What are you engaging with that matches our values?
  • Team Connection is an important skill to gain from outside of school activities
  • No devices in the bedroom
  • Parameters around Meal Times- Keep it to conversations at the dinner table
  • Children look to adults to be consistent with rules- "We have these rules because I care for you"

Misfit Project

This is The Misfit Project, they run all sorts of programs from theatre, DND, Mentoring and more for ages 8-26. This is a great way to get children to make friends, get out of their comfort zone and just have some fun!!
