News from Year Three

Class Mass Wednesday 22nd

On Wednesday, Mrs Asbury took the Year 3s to the church for our class mass. As usual, our class behaved beautifully. They were respectful and reverent and joined in with the responses. Parents are always welcome to come along to class mass on a Wednesday at 9am sharp, we have one and sometimes two per term, so please ask myself or Tilly if you are interested!

Swimming!

Swimming has been excellent this week! All students have been giving their best effort and showing excellent behaviour. We’re feeling a little tired by the end of the day, but the the student's resilience has been impressive. Only four sessions to go next week... we’re already halfway!

Times Tables

Year 3 continues to impress us with their knowledge of 3 and 4 times tables! (Some students have even gone beyond this, learning their 6s, 8s, 12s and more!!) Ultimately, it is really important to practice for automatic recall (saying a times table fact and students answer quickly without having to work it out), but using different strategies to get an answer is also important in the learning stage. Ask your child some 3s and 4s facts... I guarantee you'll be impressed!!

Also, remember students can access Times Tables Rockstars at home on a computer or tablet with the username and password sent home in their homework folders last term. If you need to access these again, please let me know!

Spelling this week: ‘wa’, ‘wha’, ‘war’, and homophones

This week in spelling, we have been exploring words with the patterns ‘wa’, ‘wha’, and ‘war’ like water, what, and warm. Students have been learning how these letter combinations can make slightly different sounds in different words. We’ve also been working on homophones: words that sound the same but have different meanings and spellings, such as war/wore and warn/worn.

Orienteering Friday

Most of our Year 3s will participate in Orienteering tomorrow. We have been doing some practice runs during PE and Huff n Puff and students have been developing their orienteering skills. It should be a great day out!
