Library Term 3 Update and Term 4 Updates

I have seen so many amazing efforts made by students to further their reading and expand their imaginations. The library is open once again for borrowing books, and for recess and lunchtime play. We’re in for another 11 week term so I’m keen to see everyone’s wonderful faces in the library before we finish up for the 2025 school year.

The following statistics are based on student borrowing for the entirety of Term 3:

  • 253 books were added to the library’s collection, making it 565 books since April.

  • There were a total of 1719 books borrowed out. Lower than last term but we missed out on those 2 extra weeks of borrowing. But it means we have had an uptick of borrowing which I love to see!

  • 258 books were lost or still not returned by the last day of Term 3. Which is 19 less than last term. Let’s get it even lower!

  • Most borrowing year levels: 3/4s

  • Top borrowing classes for each year level:

    • Prep A = 43

    • 12A= 122

    • 34D = 101

    • 56E = 133 → which makes them the top borrowing class again!

The top 10 student borrowers were:

  • Sebastian Turczyn 1/2A - 48

  • Ella King 5/6E - 21

  • Nor Azaza 5/6E - 20

  • Sarah Qureshi 3/4C - 15

  • Leona Covell 5/6E - 13

  • Olivia Francisco 1/2F & Ammar Ibrahim 1/2F- 11

  • Suvyuha Kundoor 3/4D & Ivie Okoh 5/6E - 10

  • Ezra Ahmadi 3/4D - 9

These classes and students should be very proud of their efforts and have received their certificates.

Looking ahead for Term 4:

October is “Spooky Season” and we have plenty of books in the library as students might get ready for Halloween (I know I love it!). We have so many different books to accommodate for some spooky reading such as the Scooby- Doo and Goosebumps series, Roald Dahl’s The Witches, Neil Gaiman’s Coraline, and many more!

Book Club:

Issue 7 and 8 of the Scholastic Book Club will come out this term with Issue 7 having

already gone home and is due back no later than the 24th of October. Issue 8 will come out around mid-term and its due date will be about two weeks after that.

New/Notable books:

Some notable acquisitions to the collection include 6 copies of Young Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe, a Yuin, Bunurong and Tasmanian man, which is a version of his book Dark Emu that targets a younger audience. This book will be used by the 3/4s this term for their Inquiry unit on diverse environments and they will be using it as a guide to learn how our First Nations Peoples have and still do look after and use the land sustainably.

For more student reading I have added these picture books to the collection and made them available to teachers;

  • Baabinje’s Backyard by Ella Noah Bancroft and Bronwyn Bancroft, a Bundjalung (New South Wales region) mother-daughter duo,

  • And Weaving Country by Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elder Aunty Kim Wandin and Christine Joy, from the Yarra Valley region. Weaving Country is particularly notable as it features Wurundjeri language, our most local Indigenous language group, with a glossary.

I’d also like to wish happy holidays to all that celebrate all of the different occasions with the festive season fast approaching. We have a multitude of books that cover different topics that children can borrow.

The last day of borrowing for 2025 will be on November 28th so all books will need to be returned after that date so I have plenty of time to get the library ready for 2026.

See you all soon
