Principal's Desk

Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 4! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and refreshing break and found some time to unwind after a busy Term 3. As we begin the final term of the year, there’s a real sense of energy and anticipation around the school. Term 4 is always a busy and exciting time, filled with celebrations, achievements, and opportunities to reflect on the growth and progress of our students throughout the year.
Term 4 Closure Days & End of Year
Our Term 4 closure days are listed below, please be sure to add these dates to your diaries and make alternative arrangements for your children.
- Monday 3rd November (day before Melbourne Cup Public Holiday)
- Friday 21st November: staff will be coming together to work on our 2026 planning documents and professional development.
Our students in Year 6 will finish on Friday 12th December at 3.30pm, with Years Prep-5 finishing on Tuesday 16th December at 3.30pm. The Year 6 students traditionally finish earlier than the rest of the students following Graduation and various end of year activities.
Class Placements for 2026
As we begin preparing for the 2026 school year, our teachers will soon start the process of placing students into class groupings in line with our Class Placement of Students Policy.
As I’m sure you can appreciate, this is a complex and thoughtful process as we work to create balanced and cohesive classes. Teachers take great care in considering each child’s academic, social and emotional needs to ensure the best possible learning environment.
We understand that the announcement of classes in December can sometimes bring mixed emotions for students and families, particularly around friendships. I ask that you trust in the teachers’ professionalism and judgement as they make decisions that are in the best interests of every child. While we cannot guarantee that children will be placed with particular friends or teachers, every effort is made to ensure that each child is well placed for a successful year ahead.
If you have any relevant information that you would like considered when placing your child, please email me directly at principal@htws.catholic.edu.au to request a Consideration for Placement of Student Form 2026.
These forms must be returned directly to me (not classroom teachers) by Friday 6 November, 2025.
Please note that:
- Any previous discussions with your child’s current teacher should now be redirected to me via this form.
- Considerations submitted in previous years will not carry over, a new form is required each year.
- Requests for specific teachers or friends will not be considered. However, information about social factors, for example, if children do not work well together, can be submitted and will be taken into account.
Finally, if your family is not planning to return to Holy Trinity in 2026, please notify the School Office as soon as possible. Accurate enrolment numbers are essential as we finalise class structures and teacher allocations for next year. Thank you for your understanding and support as we begin planning for another exciting year ahead at Holy Trinity.
Prep 2026 Transition
In a couple of weeks, we will welcome our 2026 Prep children as they begin their Transition Program. Across four sessions, the children will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the school environment and meet the Prep teaching team. With more than half of our 2026 Prep enrolments being new to Holy Trinity, these sessions also provide a valuable opportunity for families to ask questions, build connections, and begin feeling part of our community.
As part of this transition process, we will also begin visiting local kindergartens and early learning centres, and facilitating PSGs for students who may require additional support as they move into school. These visits and meetings help us to prepare thoughtfully for each child’s individual needs. This is, in many ways, the beginning of a strong home–school partnership, one that will be vital in supporting every child’s spiritual, academic, and social development throughout their primary years.
Coming Soon - New School Website!
The Leadership Team and School Advisory Council have been working with the team at Carter & Co Creative to build a stronger digital profile and we are excited to be launching our new school website soon. Part of this process involves professional photography and videography throughout the school that has been scheduled for this Thursday 16th October. We hope to be ready to launch our new website before the end of this year!
Showcase of learning - Thursday 28th October (3.30pm - 5pm)
We are planning an open classroom visit for students to showcase their learning. Please save the date - all welcome. The students are very excited to be able to share what they have been learning. You don’t have to stay for the duration of the afternoon so feel free to take your child home for a snack and return before 5pm.
World Teachers’ Day ~ Friday 31st October
On Friday 31st October, we acknowledge and celebrate the amazing teachers in our school. Every day, teachers at Holy Trinity, and across the country, are making a positive difference - creating opportunities for their students, empowering the minds of young people and proudly teaching our state's future leaders, innovators and influencers. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers and support staff at Holy Trinity for the passion and dedication you bring to work each and every day. I am proud to say that I work with you, and the children and families are blessed to have you as part of their lives.
Thank you.
Australian Girls Choir (AGC)
The Australian Girls Choir (AGC) team will be conducting a short workshop assessment at Holy Trinity on Thursday 16th October during the lunchtime break. If you wish for your daughter to participate in the workshop assessment, it is essential that you register her. Please see the Community News section of the Newsletter for further details and instructions on how to register.
Combined Catholic Parishes Raffle Tickets due back this week
Thank you to those families that have returned their Combined Catholic Parishes Raffle tickets. We are still waiting on a number of books to be returned. Even if tickets are UNSOLD it is a regulatory requirement that unsold books are returned.
If you are unable to return your raffle book please provide a Statutory Declaration to support this.
Joke of the Week
A climber fell off a cliff, and as he tumbled down, he caught hold of a small branch wedged in the rock.
"HELP! IS THERE ANYBODY UP THERE?" he shouted.
A majestic voice boomed through the gorge:
"I will help you, my son, but first you must have faith in me."
"Yes, yes, I trust you!" cried the man.
"Let go of the branch," boomed the voice.
There was a long pause, and the man shouted up again, "IS THERE ANYONE ELSE UP THERE I COULD TALK TO?"
Final Thoughts ~ Making Decisions
The following came to my inbox last month as part of a Principal Leadership email. Having read through this numerous times, I’ve come to realise the message within is more than just about making decisions with leadership at school, the following can relate to all decisions in life.
- Whilst it can be tempting to make the 'easy', quick fix decision, try to consider the long term plan and the effect of the decision on tomorrow...your future self with thank you!
- Appreciate that people are part of the equation. To make a complete decision, you need to use your heart and your head in the decision making process.
- Respect those around you and consider how any decision will impact their lives, for better or worse, and understand this in the context they find themselves.
- It is important to have an informed and impartial view based only on the evidence presented to you. Believe only in what you know, not what you assume to be true, and try to be aware of any prejudice or bias that may affect your ability to discern the facts.
