Story Dogs at St Michael’s
We are very lucky to be part of the Story Dogs program at St Michael’s! Each week, a local volunteer brings their specially trained dog to school to read with our students.
Sarah, a North Melbourne local, generously volunteers her time each Friday to visit with her beautiful dog, Jarrah. Students from Year 1/2 look forward to their reading sessions with Jarrah every week — it’s always a fun, calm, and enjoyable experience!
There are many benefits to having dogs work with children. Reading with a dog helps build confidence, motivation, and a love of reading. The friendly, non-judgemental presence of a dog encourages children to relax, take their time, and enjoy sharing stories aloud. It can also help to improve focus, social skills, and emotional wellbeing.
We are so grateful to Sarah and Jarrah for bringing so much joy (and wagging tails!) to our school community each week.
Thank You!
Thanks to your generous support at our Summer Scoops event, we raised $186 for Beyond Blue on World Mental Health Day!
Your donations will help Beyond Blue continue their important work supporting Australians experiencing anxiety, depression, and mental health challenges. Every contribution helps fund free counselling, 24/7 helplines, and vital community programs that remind people they’re not alone and that help is always available.
Thank you for helping us make a difference! 💙
