Hat and Tie day has become a tradition at our College and is a special day for our Year 12 students. A photo is taken each year to mark the occasion and is hung in the Malgobila building alongside the other Hat and Tie photos taken in past years.

Our fourth whole school assembly for the year was held last Thursday 23rd October. The assembly was a celebration and farewell, held in Boucher Hall, to wish Year 12 students good luck for their exams and future paths. At the assembly, 3 students spoke of their journey at school, 2 picture presentations were shown - highlights of the year plus a photo slideshow featuring photos of our Year 12 students when they were in Prep and Year 7. The assembly ended with the Year 12 students leaving the hall signifying the end of their secondary education. After the assembly students had the Hat and Tie photo taken, staff awards were given out and of course the traditional signing of jumpers.

This year our Year 12 students celebrated their last day with an offsite excursion. Students and staff had an early start catching the bus at 7.00 am to travel to Rawson for Paintballing. During the day students participated in various games, enjoyed a yummy lunch from Subway, had a student awards presentation and used over 40,000 rounds of paintballs! The feedback has been extremely positive, and everyone had a great day.

Year 12 students began the morning with a toastie made by their English teachers before they headed to the Exam centre to complete the first of their VCAA exams over the next three weeks.

On Friday17th October, 50 students from Years 10, 11, and 12 travelled to the world-famous Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit to witness the technology, engineering, and innovation behind the MotoGP bikes in action. The day was designed to inspire our Engineering, Automotive, and Metal Fabrication students by showcasing how science, design, and technology combine at the highest level of motorsport.
The group began the day exploring the exhibition area, where students could see first hand the incredible advances in A.I., robotics, aerodynamics, and materialstechnology being used across the motor racing industry. Many were amazed by the precision engineering that goes into building a GP bike capable of reaching 350 km/h on the straight!
A major highlight of the day for two students was meeting World Champion CaseyStoner, who took time to chat with them and pose for photos. One student was even invited to sit on actual MotoGP bike for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The smiles said it all!
After lunch, students were given some free time to explore the venue in small groups, watch live practice laps, and soak in the atmosphere of the event. For many, this was their first time attending an international motor racing event — an experience that left them buzzing with excitement and a deeper appreciation of what goes into professional racing and performance engineering.
All students represented Bairnsdale Secondary College with pride and maturity, showing great enthusiasm and respect throughout the day. Staff accompanying the group were impressed by the students’ curiosity and the insightful questions they asked about vehicle performance, safety, and technology.
This excursion was more than just a day out — it was a hands-on look at the future of engineering and technology, inspiring students to think big about their own pathways in design, fabrication, and innovation.
We look forward to continuing to offer experiences like this that connect classroom learning with real-world applications and industries.
A huge thank you to the staff who attended and supported the trip, and to the students for making it such a memorable day!

Year 10 and 11 students enjoyed an excursion to Federation University last Tuesday 21st October. The group went to different sessions which included Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Criminology, Exercise and Sport Science and The Arts. It was a great introduction to Uni life.

Another successful White card course was held this week. Well done to the students who completed the course.

Headstart is when the students begin their 2026 subjects. This will commence in a few short weeks - it's time to tidy up lockers, purchase stationery and exercise books. Senior students have been discussing their subject choices for next year too. Booklists will be sent home soon. If you have any queries, please contact the Senior hub.
