Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 10, Term 1

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA

Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.

🌱 LITERACY

Students will continue to complete text response activities linked to last week's mentor text, Home in the Woods. They will explore figurative language, build their fluency and make connections between the text, their own life, other texts and the world.

In Writing, students will continue to work on a narrative (story) which they began last week, with the aim of completing the writing process through to publishing by the end of the term. They will focus on revising and editing their story, and on expectations for published work, including font size, formatting and colour choice.

You can support your child at home by reading favourite stories with your child and noticing key elements of the story, such as the problem, how the problem is solved and interesting words used by the author. You might like to ask them about the story they are working on in class, and prompt them to tell you about the orientation (beginning), problem (middle) and resolution (end).

🌱 NUMERACY

Students will continue to learn about Shape during Numeracy sessions. They will describe the features of these shapes using mathematical language and compare their properties. Additionally, students will begin to recognise symmetry and the relationships between different shapes, building a strong foundation for spatial reasoning and problem-solving.

You can support your child by noticing different shapes in the world around them. You can ask them questions such as 'what do we call that shape, how many sides/faces/vertices/edges does that shape have?'

🌱 CBL

Students are preparing for and completing their challenge; 'show the power of connection'. To prepare for our visit to Burch Memorial Preschool, students are working in their CBL Group to plan and practice a simple game that can be played with a pre-school aged child. The climax to this will be the opportunity to teach this game to a small group of kinder children. Students will then complete a post game reflection back at school, to conclude our CBL for the term.

You can support your child at home by asking them about the game which they are planning together with their CBL group.

Wellbeing

In Cyber Safety and Respectful Relationships sessions, there will be a focus on responsible communication and identifying scams online. Students will be supported with strategies for communicating responsibly in various online and face to face settings. Our Level 3 and 4 School Wide Positive Behaviour Program focus is transitioning respectfully between activities and spaces.

BURCH MEMORIAL KINDER VISIT

We are pleased to inform you that we will be doing a walking visit to the Burch Memorial Preschool next week, to complete the challenge for our Term One CBL. Children are currently working in their CBL groups, learning and preparing a game that they will teach to a small group of pre-school children. This will enable them to fulfil the CBL challenge to 'show the power of connection'.

The children will walk from school with their teachers, leaving school at 9am and returning by recess. Please ensure that your child is lined up at their classroom by 8:50am. The specific days on which this is occurring are:

  • Tuesday 1st April: Grade 3 to work with the Burch Memorial 4yo Group.
  • Wednesday 2nd April: Grade 4 to work with Burch Memorial 3yo Group.

For students in 3/4C, they will be split and will attend with students in their year level, on the nominated days as listed above. Mrs. Sledge will be attending with the children walking to the kinder on both days.

We are looking forward to this exciting opportunity to make connections with another valued group within our Wonga Park community.
