This fortnight's Spotlight is on....

Year 5 and Year 6

Year 5 - Aoibhin McGuinness

Life in Year 5 has been an exciting and enriching journey this term! In Week 6, our students participated in NAPLAN, demonstrating their hard work and dedication. We did lots of preparation and you will find some of our fabulous persuasive texts displayed on our ‘Wow Wall’ in the classroom.

In HISE, we've been delving into 'Australia as a Nation,' exploring significant milestones in our history and what makes our country unique. In English, we've been inspired by Shaun Tan's The Arrival to spark creativity in our narrative writing, with a special focus on characterisation.

We had lots of fun during our St. Patrick’s and Harmony Day celebrations last week and some year 5 students showcased some Irish dancing for the school.

To top it all off, on Wednesday we had an unforgettable reptile incursion, where students had the incredible opportunity to observe and learn about fascinating creatures up close. It's been a term full of discovery, growth, and hands-on learning in Year 5!

Year 6 A Term of Growth and Responsibility

This term, our Year 6 students have truly stepped up, showcasing leadership, responsibility, and enthusiasm in all areas of school life. They’ve embraced their roles as school captains with great pride and have been outstanding buddies to the kindergarten students, guiding them with kindness and care. Their commitment to their Year 6 duties has played a key role in the smooth running of our school.

In the classroom, Year 6 has been busy with a variety of engaging learning experiences. In Maths, they’ve focused on problem-solving, multiplication, and units of measurement, applying these skills to real-life situations. In English, the class has been diving into writing about Antarctica, exploring the continent’s unique features and challenges. Their Literacy groups have given them opportunities to engage in guided reading, typing, and creative writing. They’ve also started peer reading with their kindergarten buddies, fostering a love for reading and learning together.

In Religion, Year 6 students have been learning about Lent, St. Patrick, and the Easter story, deepening their understanding of these important themes. In History, they’re studying the Australian government system and are having fun creating Kahoot! projects to present their findings.

This week, Year 6 had an exciting science excursion where they learned all about reptiles. The students were thrilled to get up close to snakes, lizards, a turtle, and even a crocodile, making the experience both educational and memorable.

It’s been a term full of growth, learning, and leadership, and we look forward to what’s still to come!
