Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 3. We started the term with our Welcome Back virtual Assembly last Monday where I encouraged our students to strive to be the best they can be and to really challenge themselves with their own learning. This means getting a little uncomfortable with what we don't know, asking questions to clarify new concepts, and pushing ourselves a little harder. I am so proud of our students, as I visit classes and talk to teachers I am hearing and seeing great examples of learning rigour. A great opportunity to discuss this further will be our upcoming Learning Conversations. Make sure you book a time with your child's classroom teacher.
Literacy Data
When analysing our student data in the area of literacy, one area that is low across the school is our student's vocabulary knowledge. They choose to use a limited number of simple words when writing and do not always comprehend a wide range of vocabulary when reading. This can be the result of many factors, including a limited range of reading material, viewing options and /or adult conversation; it can also be a way of staying safe with what we know and not taking risks. To help promote a more extensive vocab we will include a family vocab activity to challenge you to think about exciting, interesting, and unusual words in our newsletter. This week's activity (sent home today as a hard copy) asks you to think about the word SUSTAIN. We will announce the winner in our next newsletter with a prize up for grabs.
NAPLAN
The individual student NAPLAN profiles have arrived. Teachers will distribute these at Learning Conversations next week.
New School Website
Please take a moment to have a look at our new school website. It looks amazing!
Online Behaviour
This topic is certainly gaining more media attention, and the impact of social media is becoming more apparent.
For those who missed our online Safe on Social session for parents and carers, please take the time to watch the VIDEO RECORDING of our session. (click the link)
Please find links below for the following information sheets that will help you and your families continue this important conversation.
Grow in the Likeness of God Award.
Each fortnight, I will award a member from our community this award based on our theme for 2024: Grow in the Likeness of God.
This week's recipient is Willow - 4CS
Willow came to our school at the beginning of this year and has strongly displayed the values of our school. She shows integrity through her dedication to her school work, respect for both her teachers and classmates, and courage to try things even when it is difficult.
COVID and Other Illnesses
We have seen a big increase in the number of students absent with illness in the past two weeks, including the number of notified cases of COVID. Please continue to be vigilant in this space, testing and keeping your children at home when they are unwell.
We appreciate your support in this area.
