Year 2 News

From Emma, Year 2 teacher

Classrooms have been buzzing with Olympic excitement! As part of our reading and writing lessons, our students have been immersing themselves in the thrilling world of the Olympics. From the dazzling Opening Ceremonies to the inspiring stories of legendary athletes, we have been exploring what makes the Games so special.

Reading and Writing

Students have been using their imaginations to visualise what it would be like to be an athlete at the Opening Ceremony. They've crafted vivid descriptions using their five senses, bringing the magic of the Games to life on paper. In Writing, we have explored a variety of different text types including persuasive arguments and narratives. We have taken on the challenge of writing a persuasive piece to include a new sport in the next Games. Using high modality words to convince the reader, their written work has been compelling and entertaining.

Addition and Subtraction

Students had the opportunity to create products for sale in our whole class shop. Groups were given a category and then had to price each individual item. We were able to create posters and ads for our products and then go shopping in our classroom. Students browsed each shop, created a shopping list for what items they had to buy and then calculated the total using addition strategies. There are many opportunities to practice this in real life when you are next at the supermarket.
