From Nick, Year 3-6 Science teacher

Friction

Year 3 is investigating friction by racing toy cars on different surfaces like carpet, sandpaper, and fabric. They are observing how friction slows down or speeds up the cars and discussing why certain surfaces create more resistance than others.

States of Matter

Year 4 is exploring the states of matter by conducting experiments with ice and water. They’re observing how ice melts into water and discussing how temperature affects the state of a substance. The students are also learning to classify materials as solids, liquids, or gases.

History of Photography

Year 5 is delving into the history of photography and learning how it’s connected to the science of light. They’ll be creating a camera obscura, an early type of camera, to see how light can project images onto a surface. This project helps them understand how cameras capture light to create photographs.

Electronics and Product Design

Year 6 students are continuing their inquiry into electronics and product design. They’re designing their own electronic products, using their knowledge of circuits, switches, and different materials. This hands-on project encourages them to think like inventors, solving problems through design and technology.
