District Athletics Day
On Friday the 26th of July 2024 a team of excited athletes from the grades 3-6 went to compete at the District Athletics Day. When I got to school everyone was very happy and excited about going to the day. The events were High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put ,Discus, Triple Jump, 100 metre sprint, 200 metre sprint, 800 meter race, Hurdles and 4 by 100 meter relay. There were around 40 kids competing.
We caught the bus down to the Aberfeldie athletics track. We started by cheering on those who where doing Long Jump and Triple Jump. Then the High Jumpers went out. Then shotput and discus began to start meaning we had heaps of kids going out to compete at once. Towards the end of the day the track events began to start. There was lots of cheering and support for not only our school but other schools as well.
By the end of the day we had a few people going through. Unfortunately we had no relays that won but we still showed good spirit. Everyone there was very happy and friendly and there was no one being negative at all.
The bus ride home was filled with happy and proud athletes. When we got to school we were met with congratulations. In the end we had 10 people going through to the next round. Thank you to Mrs Lafauci, Miss Walker and Mr Mitchell for organising the day for us and taking us down to the athletics track.

Chess
What a great experience for our students who nominated to enter into the Primary School Chess Tournament. Competiting against older more experienced players provided an excellent opportunity to learn some less familiar moves and appreciate the complexity of the game. From all reports, many of the students are keen to participate again next year and are actively using the life size chess board regulalry to refine their skills.
