Year 5

Hello from 5DL

This term, we have been participating in the Footsteps dance program on Wednesday mornings. The Footsteps program has been chosen as part of our physical education curriculum, and helps develop student’s social skills, confidence, fitness levels, creativity, expressive skills and coordination. We have really enjoyed learning a variety of dances focusing on a different style of dance each week.

In Year 5 we have spent a lot of time over the past week learning about the Olympics. We have been watching replays and highlights of events in the classroom. Students have been working on an Olympics research project over the last week. The topics for our project were Paris: Host City, Australian Athlete profile and Olympic Sports. In 5DL we chose an Olympic sport and created a silhouette to represent that sport and we displayed them at the back of the classroom. They look amazing!

We have also competed in a mini-Olympics in our class as part of our maths unit. Students were grouped into countries and competed in various events, such as paper shot put, long jump, basketball hoops, soccer goals and a running race. It was great to take advantage of the sunshine and work outside. We are focussing on collecting data, graphing and asking questions about our data set.
