Principal's Report

Drop-off and Pick-up Zone

As we work our way through some of the colder and wetter months of the year, it’s timely that I remind our community of expectations in our drop-off and pick-up zone. I know that it can be quite busy out there before and after school, so please be patient and respectful of other community members when waiting in line. There are always members of the school leadership team out there assisting to make arrivals and departures from school as smooth as possible for everyone. I’d also ask that parents and carers do not allow their children to exit from the car in the middle of the slip lane. It’s a dangerous practice that we don’t want to encourage. Thanks in advance for your support with this.

Olympics

We are heading towards the end of the Paris Olympic Games and it’s been great to see all of the fun activities that have been completed across different year levels. I’ve seen Olympic Maths, athlete research activities, class projects about France, Paris and the Eiffel Tower, just to name a few. Outside there have been classes measuring and recording their efforts in a range of Olympic-like activities. Events like these are a great opportunity to build on the skills students practise in class each day, in a fun and exciting way.

Sporting Achievements

On Monday I was fortunate enough to drop by Belvedere Reserve, Seaford and see our Year 5/6 girls AFL team win their regional championship. Congratulations to the girls and Mrs Spence on their efforts. It was great to see such large group of parents supporting the team. They will now move on to the State Championships later this month.

This adds to the success that our senior girls are having in 2024 with their School Sports Victoria pursuits. Along with the football, we have also had:

  • Jarlie F progress to the top 28 students in Victoria for basketball, just missing out on going to the National Championships.
  • Delilah D and Sienna F representing the school at the State Cross Country Championships

Later this year we’ll have students representing the school at the National Aerobics Championships and we still have our district athletics carnival to come, and I’m positive we’ll have a number of girls and boys move through that and on to the Divisional Championships.

Finally, I’d like to acknowledge a past LPS student, Jemma Ramsdale. This month, Jemma has been offered a contract with the GWS Giants AFLW team!  There are a number of us still at the school who taught Jemma and we can’t wait for her to make her AFLW debut!

Until next time,
