Literacy

In Reading, we will:

  • Immerse ourselves in a variety of quality picture story books to learn about various narrative structures that authors use and the importance of vocabulary
  • Read a variety of narratives, discussing characters, message and emotions
  • Continue to take part in daily Paired Fluency reading sessions to further develop our reading fluency
  • Participate in Daily Reviews to expand our word knowledge and understanding
  • Further develop our understanding of  ‘noun groups’ - colour, shape, age, size, texture
  • Summarise a text using Somebody / wanted / but / so / then
  • Join small focus reading groups to ask and answer questions and further develop our comprehension skills and gain a deeper understanding of a text.

In Writing, we will:

  • Use our knowledge of structure to compose, draft and publish narratives
  • Further develop our understanding of using precise words to lift the quality of our writing
  • Develop our characters when writing narratives by using emotions e.g. concerned, anxious, miserable, proud etc
  • Use the planning template (SWBST) Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then to support our narrative order
  • Provide multiple opportunities to practise what is explicitly taught
  • Revise and edit - having opportunities to give and receive feedback from peers and teachers.
