Principal's Post
Welcome Back
We hope that you have had the opportunity to enjoy a well-earned break and are feeling refreshed and recharged, especially after a busy Semester 1. With the new semester commencing, we are looking forward to the many opportunities to enjoy the holistic learning experiences offered by the College.
2024 De Mazenod Family Education Network Charism Pilgrimage
22 pilgrims, including our leader and mentor Fr Christian Fini OMI, accompanied by Fr Bill Ousley OMI, provided members of the De Mazenod Family Education Network with an opportunity to travel in the footsteps of St Eugene De Mazenod. St Eugene de Mazenod established his congregation and started his community in an idyllic location, Cours Mirabeau, the main street in Aix-En-Provence. This is where St Eugene grew up until the family went into exile because of the French Revolution in 1879 and is also the location for the Church of the Mission, which provides the historical and contemporary sacred home for the Oblates to gather.
The hospitality and enthusiasm of the Oblates stationed in Aix as well as at the General House in Rome featured in the highlights of an amazing 10-day schedule. Celebrating Eucharist at these sacred locations as well as in the crypt at the Vatican, in the catacombs in Rome and in the Cathedral in Marseilles (in the chapel where St Eugene is entombed under the altar) were special moments for those making the pilgrimage.
St Eugene was appointed Bishop of Marseille and travelled to Rome on several occasions to present his congregation’s rules and laws for papal approval. He was instrumental in laying the foundation of Sacre Cour. Travelling to Paris, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Pisa and Rome included highlights such as the Papal Basilicas in Rome, St Peter’s, St Paul’s, St John Lateran and St Maria Maggiore.
2026 it is the anniversary of the establishment of the Constitution and Rules. It is hoped the Charism Pilgrimage will be a biennial event enabling members of the DMFEN and the extended De Mazenod Family to witness and experience this charism experience. Thank you to Fr Fini, Fr Bill and all the pilgrims for an amazing ten days.
Year 12 Formal
At the Year 12 Formal at the end of last term, students exhibited exemplary behaviour, displaying respect and maturity throughout the event. They adhered to etiquette, interacted courteously, and maintained a positive atmosphere, reflecting their readiness to celebrate and commemorate their academic achievements responsibly. I want to congratulate and highlight how exceptional they have been this year and look forward to celebrating many achievements in the months ahead.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is a whimsical musical that brings Roald Dahl's beloved tale to life through enchanting melodies and vibrant performances. With music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the show immerses audiences in a world of pure imagination as young Charlie Bucket embarks on a fantastical journey inside Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory. The score blends catchy tunes with poignant moments, capturing the essence of Dahl's storytelling. From the energetic "Pure Imagination" to the mischievous "The Candy Man," each song enhances the magical atmosphere. Opening night is next Wednesday July 31 and concludes on Saturday August 3. Good luck to all involved.
Senior and Junior School Assemblies
At the Senior and Junior School Assemblies, students from Years 7 to 12 were acknowledged for their attitude and performance during Semester 1. The awards reflect the values to which we hope all our students aspire, Academic Excellence, Christian Leadership, Commitment and Perseverance. Our celebration of academic excellence has been a long-standing tradition at the College and the semester-based awards are one of our customs that promotes and challenges our students to shine. Christian Leadership is the essence of who we are. How we demonstrate and live the Gospel message can be recognised by contribution to liturgy, social justice and leadership. The Commitment and Perseverance Award is particularly significant in our contemporary learning environment, the prioritised attributes in the modern workplace and the societal challenges faced by all of us now. Congratulations to all the recipients, the parents, carers and the staff for their contribution to their achievements.
All the best,
Dr Paul Shannon
