Grade Two
The term is off to a wonderful start and students have benefited from the school holiday break after a busy Term 2 full of assessments and reports. We are ready for all the exciting adventures that the second semester will bring. A warm welcome to all the new students and families who have joined Oatlands for the third term.
English
In English, we have been learning about science reports this term. The students have conducted experiments before drafting and publishing their science report. From week 4, the students will be exploring narratives. During Reader’s Workshops, the students will be exploring the purpose of narratives and the impact texts have on them. During our Writer’s Workshops, the students will begin brainstorming a range of characters, settings, problems and solutions they can use during the drafting process. They will continue to work through the writing process to create a range of fictional texts.
Book Week (19-23 August) is fast approaching and the students are looking forward to an action packed week with classroom book studies, performances, mystery readers, a book trail, author visit and a whole school book showcase.
Mathematics
In Mathematics this term, the students are exploring a range of mathematical topics through Olympic-themed lessons. The students have already explored volume, capacity and weight. They explored shapes with flags and area, creating their own ‘Oatlympics’ mascot. Students will explore graphing, mapping and chance in the coming weeks.
Integrated
During our Integrated sessions we have been exploring light and sound. The students have thoroughly enjoyed our excursion to Scienceworks. During the day, students got to visit the ‘Beyond Perception’ exhibition, lightning room and STEM Lab. Whilst in the STEM Lab, students participated in the ‘Rainbow, Shadows and Light’ workshop. Throughout the term we have also implemented a number of Cyber Safety and Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships activities, as well as celebrating the successes of the Australian Olympians competing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Thank you again for all your support.
Warm regards,
The Grade 2 Team
