Books, books, books!
Book Week 2025
Last week we celebrated Book Week with a variety of activities, including: A book lunch, book bingo, sharing book recommendations and “shelfies” (photos of our book shelves) on our Padlet, the opportunity to borrow an “adventure in a bag”, a “book buffet” and a staff book swap and dress ups on Friday.
It was great to spend the week celebrating all things books/reading and to share many great book recommendations.

Microfiction Competition
As part of Book Week, the library also hosted a microfiction creative writing competition, that was open to all students. Students were asked to craft a (very) short story in 200 words or less, based on one of the following prompts:
1. Wild
2. Journey
3. Escape
We received a number of entries, all of which were fantastic, making it a tough decision. We hope that all the students who entered will continue to follow their passion for writing into the future.
Congratulations to Jennifer McLaughlin from year 11, who is the winner of the competition with her story Critiqued Keratin, based on the prompt ‘Wild’. You can read it below!
'Critiqued Keratin'
Signs of inviting the wind into your hair is considered the sin of the century these days. Any possible indication of strays, or God forbid, untamed frizz receives a public stoning, from glassy green, blue and brown marbles. Salivating for sleekness, their comb-like hands are ready to rake and tidy and neaten and tame any mane. Well, if they think I’m too mammal like, I’ll snap my jaw and bare my teeth with a taunting growl making them jump with fright, jerking their head away from my reprimanded freedom. In letting them fall I stand tall, and laugh at their newly knotted hair, frightening them into imperfection.
