Year 9 STEM Spaghetti Engineering Challeng

Year 9 STEM students recently took part in an exciting engineering challenge: to design and build the strongest, most cost-effective spaghetti bridge.

Using only spaghetti, hot glue, and rubber bands, teams constructed truss bridges designed to span a 30 cm gap. Each bridge will soon be tested by gradually adding weights, with the goal of building the strongest bridge using the least materials. Students had to carefully balance strength with cost, as every spaghetti strand and glue stick added to their “budget.”

The project showcased real-world engineering skills – planning, testing, and problem-solving – while inspiring creativity and friendly competition in the classroom. Testing will take place next week, so stay tuned for the second instalment of this exciting challenge, which many students have described as one of their favourite activities of the year.
