Snapshots from the week

Wear it Purple Day

Today, our school came together to celebrate Wear It Purple Day, showing support for LGBTQIA+ young people and promoting the message that everybody has the right to be proud of who they are.

Students and staff embraced the day by wearing purple and participating in activities that highlighted inclusivity, visibility, and the importance of creating safe spaces for all. The energy across the school was inspiring, and it was powerful to see our community stand together in support of diversity and acceptance.

Lunchbox Sessions

Yesterday we hosted our second last Lunchbox Session of the year, and it was a huge success. Students joined us in iBlock during second break to hear from an impressive line-up of guest speakers, including:

  • MODE
  • James Cook University
  • University of Southern Queensland
  • Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Aviation Safety Advisor

Each presenter shared valuable insights into study pathways, career opportunities, and future directions, giving students the chance to ask questions and explore options for life beyond school.

A special mention goes to CASA, who visited Balmoral State High School exclusively to share their expertise and advice on aviation safety and career pathways in the industry — a fantastic opportunity for our students.

Thank you to all our presenters and students who attended. With snacks and great conversations, it was another engaging session that left students inspired about their futures.

Year 10 Music Academy

Last week our Year 10 Music Academy class welcomed Fletcher Babb from the Griffith University Conservatorium of Music.

Fletcher ran a Film Music creation workshop with our young musicians that focused on key aspects such as sequencing, texture, timbre and instrumentation. Using these elements and concepts of Film Music composition, the Music Academy class collaboratively composed and performed music to match a scene from Jurassic Park. These skills will help inform their individual film compositions in term 4.

Our year 10 Music Academy students were thoroughly engaged in the workshop and enjoyed being creative with the choices of instruments to create all the sounds they needed for their scene.

Year 7 Netball Academy

A great opportunity, for our Year 7 Netball Academy students to watch the Sapphire Netball League. The CLC Tigers in their last game of the season, at Nissan Arena yesterday, against Sunshine Coast Thunder. A reward for our hardworking Year 7 Netball Academy players and parents!
