KITCHEN AND GARDEN PROGRAM FOR 2025

THREATENED SPECIES BAKE OFF 2025
Over 1900 Australian native animals and plants are listed as threatened and at risk of becoming engangered or extinct. Each year we help to raise awareness of some of these animals with our Threatened Species Bake Off that is celebrated on 7th September every year. The bake off was created to honor Benjamin, Tasmanias last Tasmanian Tiger who passed away in 1936.
Each class cooks up a batch of yummy cupcakes and decorates them to celebrate their animal. They are competing against each other to win their classes bake off. Each classes winning plate of cupcakes is entered into the annual #TSBakeOff2025 competion.
As always, we would love to see you in the kitchen helping with classes. You don't need to be an experienced cook but an extra pair of hands and eyes can really help out, and it's great fun to see the kids in action. There is no need to let us know you're coming, please just sign in at the office and ensure you have completed your volunteer requirements with Vicki.
Also please ensure each student has a kitchen hat as they are required to be worn at every class. They are available to order from the uniform shop for $10.

Threatened Species Day is on 7th September and to help raise awareness our year 3 and 5s are learning about some of our most threatened animals including our very own hooded plover. In year 5, students have been researching their animals and then creating amazing posters to include with their competition cupcakes.
Year 3 have been working on designing garden beds, researching seasonal veggies, how big they grow and trying to fiull a garden with yummy produce. This weeks year 3's had some lovely weather so got heaps done in the garden. They planted kale and lettuce, weeded, emptied compost bins ready for the Food Scrap Friday team this week, sleaned out the chicken coop and so much more. They are working towards getting their tool and wheelbarrow licences so have been making sure they use all the tools safely and correctly.
GARDEN GURUS started planting out their first garden this week with Mark and Kat. Their mission is to fill our school gardens with so many plants, our native animals and insects will never run out of food!
If you are interested in helping plant habitat and food for our native animals, we meet each Wednesday 2.15-3.15pm. Bring your gloves and have f
Volunteering in garden-Volunteering is super easy and so much fun. You dont need to be a garden guru either. We just want you to come along and help our brilliant kids with any garden tasks they do.
You do however need a current working with childrens check and complete a simple orientation through the office (5 mins) and then your ready to go.
You can either rock up on the day of your childs session or let me know prior. They more helpers we have, the more advanced work the kids to do. You dont even have to have a student in the program to volunteer. Just come along and hang out. You may even just want to help in the garden in general. Again, no experience required! You can come and potter around anytime. Just let me know when your are coming and Ill set you up with some tasks.
Happy gardening!!
