Product Design - Students Explore Design and Culture at the NGV
Unit 2 Product Design and Technologies students recently visited the NGV to explore the Martin Grant and Kimono exhibitions.
During a guided tour of Martin Grant’s exhibition, students observed his thoughtful approach to classical silhouettes and the importance of designing with the end user in mind.
They then explored the Kimono exhibition, gaining insight into the garment’s cultural significance in Japan, its sustainable design features, and its evolution in contemporary fashion.
The excursion provided valuable inspiration and a deeper understanding of how culture, sustainability, and user needs influence design.

High School Musical
In term 4 last year, we held our auditions for our College Production “HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL- ONSTAGE” and we began our journey to what would be a fantastic performance week at the Drum Theatre. On Thursday night, the cast and crew gathered together to reflect and celebrate their musical journey. Not only did they celebrate an incredibly successful season with terrific ticket sales and wonderful audience feedback, but they celebrated the friendships they made and embraced the new version of themselves.
School Musicals are hard work; they require commitment, energy, perseverance,co-operation, and a huge amount of talent and skill. They are expensive to produce. But they are so worth it! Our cast and crew learnt so much from this experience. These skills will help them in their further education and careers. They know how to work to a deadline, how to cope under pressure, how to mix with new people, how to problem solve, how to project manage and push themselves to be their very best onstage, backstage and throughout the whole rehearsal process.
As staff, we are immensely proud of all the students who contributed to the success of our 2025 production. We are incredibly grateful to College Leadership and the entire Killester Staff who were so supportive of our work. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors who enabled us to invest in quality sets and costumes.
Finally, we give thanks to our audiences. This year, our Year 7 & 8’s were our VIP preview audience and their cheering and applause inspired our cast and crew to take on opening night with great confidence. We hope to see them onstage in future years. To the parents and friends who purchased tickets ( especially those who came to multiple performances)- we thank you.

CGSAV Soccer - Intermediate Champions
Our school recently competed in a soccer event with three teams representing us – Juniors, Intermediates, and Seniors.
Both the Juniors and Seniors battled hard in their group stages, each narrowly missing out on a spot in the final by goal difference and finishing in 3rd place. Despite this, their commitment and teamwork stood out, and they can be proud of their efforts.
The Intermediate team progressed through to the grand final and delivered a brilliant performance in a tightly contested match. After a tense extra time period, they secured a 1–0 victory to claim the championship.
All students represented the school with pride, showing great sportsmanship, skill, and spirit. It was a fantastic day of soccer and an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Kildare Ministries - #EndTheWaiting Vigil
On the 3rd of September, at the Brigidine Ministry Centre in Albert Park, 27 Killester College students and teachers attended the #End the Waiting Vigil to support thousands of refugees and asylum seekers who have remained trapped in legal limbo for more than a decade.
During this vigil, representatives of Killester were given the opportunity to pray for refugees and asylum seekers. They heard the moving experiences of asylum seekers and from passionate church leaders who spoke of the urgency needed to address these issues to ensure hope, dignity and a future could be available to all Australians.

Year 10 Crimes Against Humanity - Melbourne Holocaust Museum
On the 4th of August, the Year 10 Crimes Against Humanity students had the opportunity to go on an excursion to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum. We made our way through the exhibition with the children of the Holocaust survivors as our tour guides. We explored the events of the Holocaust through survivor testimonies, artefacts, and photos. We learnt that all of the clothing and items were donated to the museum by of Holocaust survivors and their children. Another thing we learnt was what the Jewish people had to wear in the concentration camps, which was their unique uniform that looked like striped pyjamas.
One of the most powerful parts of the experience was having the opportunity to listen to a Holocaust survivor named Andre, who shared his traumatic life experience of surviving the Holocaust with us. It was a miracle to be able to hear his experiences in person, especially knowing how rare it is to meet someone who lived through such a tragic time. His experiences were deeply emotional and left a lasting impact on everyone in the room. We felt honoured and grateful to hear his voice and learn from someone who had lived through such a tragic time in history. Throughout the experience, we personally felt a rush of many different emotions, such as sadness and sorrow, but also inspiration and hope.

Career Expo Inspires Students to Explore Future Pathways
On Thursday, 24th August, our school hosted a vibrant Career Expo designed to inspire and guide students in Years 10 to 12 as they prepare for their next steps beyond secondary school.
The event brought together representatives from over 15 universities, TAFEs, and training providers, offering students the opportunity to learn more about a wide range of study and career options. From discussing course structures and entry pathways to understanding future job prospects, students were able to explore possibilities that align with their interests, skills, and ambitions.
The Expo provided an invaluable platform for students to:
- Ask direct questions to university and TAFE staff
- Gain insights into both academic and vocational pathways
- Collect resources and information for career planning
Build confidence in making informed decisions about their future
By engaging with multiple institutions in one place, students were able to compare opportunities and start thinking about their long-term goals. For many, it was their first chance to connect directly with tertiary providers and visualise the exciting possibilities ahead.
The Career Expo reflects our school’s ongoing commitment to supporting students in making informed choices about their education and career pathways. We thank the participating universities, TAFEs, and training organisations for their time and dedication to our students’ futures.

Yr 11 Physical Education - Zone Bowling
On the 26th of August, the Year 11 PE students went on an excursion to the Zone Bowling in Clayton. This activity provided a practical example of how different physical activities can influence both active and sedentary behaviours. Bowling is considered a moderate physical activity because it involves walking, bending and coordinating movements which help improve strength, coordination and flexibility.
At the same time, the activity allowed students to observe how people can engage in enjoyable, social forms of exercise. By participating in bowling, students were able to reflect on how incorporating recreational physical activities into their routines can reduce sedentary time, promote regular movement and encourage lifelong healthy habits. We also went to laser tag, which was exciting, energetic, and fun from start to finish. It's a recreational activity that promotes many skills. Improves physical activity (running, dodging, crouching = cardio + movement). It boosts mental health by reducing stress and promoting fun. It also encourages teamwork and communication skills.
Overall, this excursion taught us about all the possibilities for the different ways we can stay active, have fun, and build teamwork outside the classroom. This was a fun activity for everyone as we got to hang out with our friends and explore the different activities.
