Stage 2

A message from Stage 2

We are already halfway through Term 3! Thank you to all the families who were able to join us for our learning showcase during Education Week. The students enjoyed sharing their learning and school work with you!

Book Week was also a massive success, with so many students putting loads of effort into their costumes. It was wonderful to see their creativity and enthusiasm on display.

English

Students are completing our poetry unit and have written some very creative and interesting free verse poems.

Three Years Without Rain

The grass used to be lush and green,

But now it is brown and lean.

The trees used to be healthy and strong,

But now all of their leaves are gone.

Sharp snapped branches, a baked blue sky,

It was so blistering hot, I could cry.

Every day was a looming fear,

Death seemed extremely near.

Sparks could fly at the slight mishap,

Quick we better dash for the tap!

This terror went on for the next three years,

Every morning we listened with straining ears.

Then one day we heard a 'splash, splash' sound,

We went to take a look and water submerged the ground!

The great rain

Has come again!

During our English unit over the next five weeks, students will explore the idea of characterisation using the book The Callers written by Kiah Thomas. Students explore how authors create and develop characters in a story, helping readers understand who they are, what they want, and why they act the way they do. Through reading The Callers, students will practise identifying different character traits and motivations, and they will also have opportunities to think about how characters change throughout the story.

Mathematics

In the upcoming weeks, during maths groups, students will work on building skills in Number and Algebra as well as Measurement and Spatial Awareness. This involves understanding numbers and patterns, solving addition and subtraction problems, and exploring how numbers relate to each other.
