Deputy Principal's Message

We're halfway though Term 3! With many major events now behind us, we have many more to look forward to in the second-half of the term, including this week's An Evening with ACoS performance evening.

Regional Sporting Events

Recently, Ben Venue students have competed in the North West PSSA Gymnastics Gala Day and the Armidale PSSA Zone Primary Athletics Trials. Congratulations to all students for qualifying and competing at this level, and a huge thank you to Ms Rebecca O'Hara and Ms Mebby Walker for their outstanding organisation of these regional events. Results for the athletics trials will be shared in the next newsletter.

Last week, Grace Ince represented as a striker in the NSW State Girls 12 Years Hockey team at the School Sport Australia National Championship. The team was undefeated throughout the tournament, becoming Australian champions. Congratulations Grace, your hard work has paid off and you have made your school, family and team very proud!

Check-in Assessments for Stage 2 and 3 Students

The Check-in assessment is an annual online assessment for students in Years 3 to 9 in NSW Public Schools. All students complete a reading test and a numeracy  test. Year 6 students also complete a writing task.

The tests are designed to take up to 60 minutes, however, there is no time limit. Students are allowed extra time if required.

The Check-in assessments support the identification of student performance in literacy and numeracy and inform next steps in teaching and learning. They support teachers in analysing strengths and determining areas of focus.

They are designed to:

  • provide an overview of student learning across a year level
  • identify student misconceptions
  • support planning and programming
  • complement other in-school assessments and teacher observations.

This year, all Year 3-6 students will complete the assessments during Weeks 7 to 9 (1 September to 19 September 2025).
