School Sport - Thursday

Our Sport in Schools program - Gymnastics at the PCYC - is proving very successful, with the students involved and Ms King returning after each session very excited and enthused. It has provided an excellent opportunity for our students to be involved in the gymnastic program and to utilise the both the PCYC facilities and expert coaching. We greatly appreciate their support of the program.

The regional day is yet to be confirmed. Mr Lilley is currently seeking expressions of interest for the teams.

St Joseph's Ultimate Frisbee

Last Thursday the St Joseph's Frisbee team competed in their first match against Muswellbrook High. The team has been training for two terms during sport time to learn the basics of the game (throwing and catching). In recent training sessions, they have been working on and creating their own strategies, tactics and have learnt how to self-referee during the game.

They came away with a win and I am very proud of the sportsmanship and fairness they displayed throughout the game. The team has significantly progressed since their first training session and they are very good at working together

.

We look forward to our next match against another school!

What is Ultimate Frisbee?

For those who don’t know, Ultimate Frisbee is an actual sport!

It is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport played with a flying disc (frisbee), where two teams compete to score points by catching the disc in the opposing team’s end zone. Players cannot run while holding the disc and must pass it to teammates using a variety of different throws. Possession changes if the disc is dropped, intercepted, or goes out of bounds.

The game is unique in that it is self-refereed at all levels, meaning players are responsible for calling their own fouls and resolving disputes on the field. This is supported by the overarching rule: “Spirit of the Game,” which emphasises sportsmanship, respect and fair play.
