This term Prep students have learnt about types of materials, and which materials can be recycled. Preps have also done lots of practise putting materials in the right bin. They have learnt about litter and why it's a problem. Prep students are superstars at using the right bin, and understand that this helps the environment. Great effort Preps! See below some pics of students sorting items into the right bins.
This week, the Year 1 and 2 students developed their fine-motor skills by creating clay pinch pots. Sculpture is such an exciting part of visual art, and the students always look forward to working with clay. To extend their challenge, they not only made pinch pots but also crafted little lids to go with them. Developing fine-motor skills is important for success both inside and outside the classroom, and shaping a pot and lid step by step into the form they imagined was a fun way to practise these skills. The students did an amazing job, and next up—we’ll be painting our pots!
The past two weeks, Years 3 and 4 have been practicing their rugby skills. We have looked at how to pass and catch the ball correctly, using the W grip. We had a competition to see which paired group could make the most passes in two minutes. We then practiced a 2 v 1 attack versus defence game, whereby the children had to avoid being tagged by the defender and score a try. Well done to all the children taking part in this week's PE lessons!
Over the second half of term 2, the Grade 5 and 6 students have been working towards building their guitar playing skills. Grade 6 students have been transitioning from modified 3 string guitar chords they learnt previously to 6 string open chords. Grade 5 students individually have had the option of continuing with 3 string chords or beginning to work on 6 string chords. We are working towards playing a whole class song with a backing track.
Grade 5 and 6 students have also been learning a key piece on the kalimba. Students have been working towards performing this as an assessment item at the end of the term.
All material has been linked to our topic, The History of Music Genres.
The Grade 5 and 6 Rock Band will perform at assembly on the last day of term this Friday, 19th September 2025.
During Book Week the library was transformed into a Book Fair! Over four days, students and families visited the Book Fair to view and purchase books.
In total, $6,643 was spent at the Book Fair. This raised just under $2,000 worth of books for our school.
A huge thank you goes to all the staff and family volunteers who assisted in the running of the Book Fair.
