Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

This week in Personal Social Capabilities, our Preps have been learning about problem-solving. We explored a new strategy to help us solve problems quickly and effectively. The children showed fantastic thinking skills as they identified problems, brainstormed possible solutions, and chose the best option to resolve their dilemma. We also discussed how this strategy can be used both at school and at home. Well done, Preps – you are becoming confident and capable problem-solvers!

Year 1

In Year 1, we have been learning about Early World Civilisations in English. We have travelled back in time to explore Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. Students have learned about the different cities, farming styles, writing, leaders and religions these civilisations had. We had fun trying to write our names in the ancient writing of cuneiform and hieroglyphs. Check out some of our awesome work below!

Year 2

In Week 3, our Year 2 students embarked on an excursion to TwistEd Science as part of our Science Unit: Flash! Bang! with a focus on light and sound. Students participated in a workshop where they explored the colours within white light, sound sources and the way light and sound move. They had time to be scientists and explore many different stations. These ranged from bubbles, rocket launching, pipe connections and building. Check out some of our mini scientists below.

In Week 6, they thoroughly enjoyed developing their skills in woodwork during our A Bright Idea in-visit. The goal of the experience was to build a model plane with working lights as a celebration of our Science Unit: Flash! Bang! There was a chorus of banging hammers, sanding of wood and voices of helpful students throughout each stage of the process. They were very proud of their end products with all students flying them out of the room! We wonder if there will be any keen woodworkers in the future who will create some innovative designs.

Year 3

Our Year 3 students had an incredible time on their very first camp! From mountain biking through the trails to cooking damper over the campfire, every activity brought both challenge and joy. Students showed great courage on the Vertical Challenge and embraced the thrill of the giant swing, cheering each other on every step of the way.

It was wonderful to see so many examples of persistence, resilience, and teamwork as students pushed themselves to try new experiences. We are so proud of the way they embraced camp life with such energy, positivity, and determination.

Year 4

Sea Life Aquarium Excursion

Last week, our Year 4 students enjoyed a fantastic excursion to Sea Life Aquarium, designed to enrich their Humanities learning about the world’s oceans and the incredible life within them. They were thrilled to see marine creatures up close, including penguins, sharks, sawfish, stingrays, seahorses and fish. Highlights of the day included meeting an enormous crocodile, watching the playful penguins, and uncovering fascinating facts about jellyfish. The teachers were especially proud of how positively the students represented our school while travelling by tram and throughout the day.

Year 5

In Science this term, the Year 5 students have been learning about types of renewable energy sources which have included the use of windmills. After learning about windmills and how they can produce energy, students made their own windmill. Take a look at some of their creations in the pictures.

On Friday, the Year 5 students had a fantastic time representing SMPS at the Touch Rugby Gala Day in Fawkner Park. They showed great teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination across all their games, while also having lots of fun. It was wonderful to see them put the skills they had been learning in PE into action throughout the day. The Year 5 teachers were very proud of their efforts on and off the field.

Year 6

In English, students have learned about the art of persuasive writing as part of our novel study on Tim Winton's Blueback. First, they wrote a persuasive letter to the City of Port Philip on why our beaches need to be better cared for. Now, students are working in pairs to write, record and edit a persuasive podcast on a topic of their choice. We have been so impressed how convincing they can be!
