Hooptime:
On Monday 25th August the St. Leonard's Rookie and All-Star teams came together with many other Primary Schools in our zone to play in the District Basketball matches at the State Basketball Centre. The students tried their very best all day, having lots of fun playing against different schools and showing great sportsmanship!
Many students scored lots of points and persevered through some tough games. We all thank our teachers - Mr Stokes, Miss T and Mrs Sedony and our Student Teacher Ruby for coaching us on the day!
All-Star Teams Results:
Results All-Star Boys:
Game 1: Won
Game 2: Lost by two points
Game 3: Lost by small margin
Game 4: Won
Made it through to Grand-Finals!
The All-Star Boys won 2 out of their 4 games. They made it to the Grand Final through a tight percentage calculation because several All Star boys teams all finished on two wins for the day so they had to go to a percentage draw. They sadly lost against Good Shepherd in the Grand Final but they all played absolutely amazing basketball and had such great teamwork with each other. Big thank you to Kim Prack (Oliver’s mum) who helped coach the boys throughout the day. Special thank you to Lisa Simmonds (Lachie’s mum) who helped with scoring.
Results All-Star Girls:
Game 1: Lost
Game 2: Tied
Game 3: Lost
Semi-Finals: Lost
The All-Star Girls won none of their games but tied in one. They made it into the Semi-Finals but lost against St Justin’s by 19 points. They had such a fun time competing against the other schools. It was a great team effort and they all tried their best as most of them are netballers this really tested their determination! They all scored many points and persevered even though they lost most of their games!
Rookie Teams Results:
Rookie 1:
Rookie 1 played outstandingly well. They won 4 out of 5 games. Dallas and Alex were the top point scorers for the team but it was such a great team working together, trying their best and having fun together. Thanks to Malisa (Cruz’s mum) for coaching on the day!
Rookie 2:
Rookie team 2 played very well. They won 3 out of 5 games and tied in 2 of the games. Congratulations to one of the star players of the team, Alfie. Other points scorers were Julian, Rhys, Aneesh and Ava. It was a great team effort and everyone tried their hardest. Thank you to Mrs Sedony, Miss T and our student teacher Ruby who assisted in coaching us on the day!
Rookie 3:
Unfortunately the Rookie 3s lost all their games. However they gave every game their best shot and we were all proud of them for a great day on the courts. They had a good team effort put in and they pushed through the hard times. Even though they had some tough opponents, they were still pushing for the win. Thanks to Manoj (Kaelyn’s dad) for encouraging everyone on the day.
Rookie 4:
Rookie 4 played a total of 5 games. They played all 5 games exceptionally well, they won the first three games and unfortunately lost the fourth. They drew their last game of the day with much effort. Unfortunately rookie 4 didn’t have their last game on their timetable so they could only play one half causing them to lose. Everybody put in a good effort with everyone scoring at least one point during the whole tournament. Even though they didn’t win all their games, everybody had fun. Thanks to Michelle (Kaitlyn’s mum) for coaching and support on the day!
Special congrats to all the Rookie captains (Isaiah, Jacob, Oliver L and Natalie) for leading your teams throughout the day and having fun altogether win or lose!
Also a big thank you to all the Yr 5/6s teachers and Mr Stokes for all the support they gave us during Hooptime.
We really appreciate all of the encouragement and effort you put into our teams!
