YEAR 6

FROM THE CLASSROOM

This week, students proudly began participating in the Stand Up Project (SUP) program, where they explored teamwork, leadership and positive connections within our school community. Students especially enjoyed the collaborative activities and discussions, and were proud to be part of a program that encourages confidence, respect and standing up for themselves and others.

 

“I feel really proud to be a SUP leader because I enjoy being a role model for the younger kids” - Nathan, 6B

 

“I am really liking learning how to be a leader in the SUP program. This is my first time being able to help others in my school through a leadership role and I’m really happy to do it” - Matthew, 6B 

 

“We have had the opportunity to learn about being an upstander in our school and I am looking forward to teaching others about this” - Naysa, 6B 

 

Congratulations to our 2026 SUP Leaders, who received their leadership badges at this week’s assembly. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, responsibility and positive attitude these students have already shown, and we look forward to seeing them continue to lead by example throughout the year as part of the Stand Up Project program. 

 

Students also participated in National Reconciliation Week learning experiences this week and discussions focused on recognising and respecting Australia’s First Nations peoples, histories and cultures. Students explored the deep and ongoing connection the Bunurong/Boon Wurrung people have to the land, waters and sky, and reflected on why Acknowledgements of Country continue to be important today. During both learning time and circle time discussions, students shared thoughtful reflections about respect, belonging and caring for Country, before beginning to create their own personalised Acknowledgements of Country using meaningful and respectful language. 

 

WELLBEING

As part of our Health and Wellbeing program next week, students will be participating in lessons about puberty and body changes. These lessons are delivered in an age-appropriate, respectful and factual manner and are designed to support students in understanding the physical, emotional and social changes that occur during adolescence. Students will also learn about menstruation, personal hygiene, respectful behaviour and trusted sources of information and support. We understand this can be a sensitive topic for some students and families, and we encourage open conversations at home following the lesson if appropriate.

READING

  • We are learning to unpack texts and record our wonderings and inferences.
  • We are learning to use clues in a text to understand unfamiliar vocabulary.
  • We are learning to predict and check the meaning of unfamiliar words.
  • We are learning to form questions and locate answers within a text.
  • We are learning to summarise texts using key supporting details.
  • We are learning to be active listeners and work at the expected noise level.

 

WRITING

  • We are learning to plan and structure a recount.
  • We are learning to use our plan to write a detailed recount.
  • We are learning to write detailed opening and body paragraphs.
  • We are learning to listen respectfully and persist with challenging tasks.

 

MATHS

  • We are learning to express probability as a fraction, decimal and percentage.
  • We are learning to understand that the total outcomes of chance experiments equal 1.
  • We are learning to understand expected and relative frequency.

 

INQUIRY

  • We are learning to understand and classify laws and bills.
  • We are learning to understand the process of passing a bill.
  • We are learning to follow a script and work respectfully with our peers.

 

WELLBEING

  • We are learning to investigate the changes that occur during puberty and understand their purpose.
  • We are learning to explain how puberty experiences differ from person to person.
  • We are learning to demonstrate respect and maturity when discussing sensitive topics.

REMINDERS

WINTER GALA

Our Winter Gala event is fast approaching, please ensure you log onto Compass and provide consent and pay. The cost is $9.00. Students have been training hard all year for this day, and we hope to see them all in attendance. 

 

UNIFORM REMINDER

We are still seeing students wearing black pants or shorts to school. 

A reminder that Ramlegh Park’s uniform is navy blue. 

 

With the weather getting colder in the mornings we also remind families that while white or navy blue sleeves are fine, long black sleeves and hoodies are not to be worn under school uniforms. 

 

CAMP INFORMATION

As mentioned in last week's newsletter, our upcoming school camp at Woorabinda is fast approaching! 

 

  • 6AEF will attend camp on August 17th-19th
  • 6BCDG will attend on the August 19th-21st

 

The Compass event is now open. Please log in and pay the deposit to confirm your child’s place at camp. We are looking forward to an amazing camp experience with everyone!
