YEAR 1

FROM THE CLASSROOM
It has been a terrific week of learning in Year 1!
Lots of happy and excited faces especially when starting our new Talk 4 Write topic. Students have also loved our Math’s topic of location and using the right vocabulary.
In Wellbeing we learnt about the different types of problems we may face daily and how we can overcome them. A strategy we learnt is the ‘Six Sides of Breathing’ toolkit, we can use these to calm ourselves after a stressful situation.
In Reading, students practiced identifying interesting words in a chosen mentor text and learned how to find the main idea of a story. This supported them in retelling the story in their own words.
In Writing, students were hooked into a new Persuasive Talk for Write text! We had lots of questions and excitement was certainly built. We went to the sandpit by following a treasure map to find our treasure!
During Phonics, students began to revise, practice and apply their knowledge into the previously learnt sounds in 7.2. Students look at these sounds through reading and writing tasks.
In Mathematics, students are learning location and the correct vocabulary to use (left, right, behind, in front). Students used Bee-Bots to help them learn and created a fun obstacle course which they enjoyed. Students also learned to multiply and divide numbers while using the correct language such as equal and groups.
This week we celebrated the National Simultaneous Storytime featuring "Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller" on Wednesday the 27th of May. Students were engaged in reading the book and had many exciting questions and illustrations to look at.
