K, 1 - Miss Smith
Learning Intention: We are learning to create an abstract portrait using simple shapes and bright colours, inspired by Pablo Picasso.
Our creative K/1 artists stepped into the world of abstract art. Inspired by the famous artist Pablo Picasso, the children discovered that portraits don’t have to look perfectly realistic to be spectacular masterpieces! Using bold lines, unusual geometric shapes, and vibrant oil pastels, the children practised drawing squashed, imaginary faces and experimented with blending light and dark shades together. This lesson was a fantastic boost for our fine motor skills and creative confidence. Come take a look at our bright, beautifully distorted gallery display in our classroom!
2, 3 - Miss Bustard
Learning Intention: We are learning to use number bonds and the relationship between addition and subtraction to solve problems involving partitioning.
In Mathematics recently, 2/3 have been diving deep into partitioning, using our trusty number bonds and exploring the clever relationship between addition and subtraction to solve all kinds of tricky problems. To help bring these concepts to life, the children have been engaging in a variety of hands-on activities. We have been putting our thinking caps on during collaborative group work and rotating through some fantastic, high-energy math games. There has been plenty of brilliant brainstorming on our mini whiteboards, and we’ve been using physical blocks to quite literally build our understanding of how numbers break apart! Additionally, the children have been working hard in a daily retrieval rotation with our wonderful Education Assistant, ensuring that their previous learning stays fresh and flexible.
4, 5 & 6 - Mr Prince
Learning Intention: We are learning to identify and use similes in poetry to create clear and imaginative images for our readers.
Years 4, 5 and 6 have been exploring the wonderful world of poetry. Our learning has focused on how poets use figurative language to create vivid images and express ideas in creative ways.
A key focus has been on similes, where writers compare one thing to another using the words like or as. We have enjoyed identifying similes in poems and creating our own examples inspired by nature, emotions and everyday experiences. Through reading and writing poetry, we have learnt how figurative language can help make writing more engaging and meaningful for the reader.
