Visual Art and Design
Year 9 Drawing and Painting
For this unit, students selected a significant person in their life to be the sitter for a portrait. The portrait was intended to be submitted to the Young Archies Portrait Prize, inspired by the famous Archibald Portrait Prize. Students used reference photos and/or sketches developed from a meeting or occasion with the sitter. If the sitter had passed away, an existing photograph could be used. Students honed their portraiture drawing skills, focusing on facial and body proportions. They explored different art materials and techniques to find expressive ways to depict their sitter, aiming to capture the essence and personality of the individual.
Top Arts and NGV
Year 10, 11, and 12 students in Art Creative Practice recently enjoyed a city excursion, exploring Top Arts and three NGV exhibitions, including the Triennial. Immersed in the diverse artworks, they gained insight into creative processes and exhibition techniques. Inspired by the experience, some students are eager to participate in Top Arts' 2025, where selected students from the state are chosen to have their year 12 artworks displayed in an NGV curated exhibition. We look forward to supporting our students this year and seeing what they come up with.
