The Strawbale Picnic

The Strawbale Picnic concert was a beautiful night of entertainment that brought our incredible THS community together. This is a special event in our THS calendar, as we meet so many of our new Year 7 families, and get the pleasure of seeing the incredible efforts of all music students who perform on the night.

There are so many people that support the success of this event. I would like to extend my thanks to our staff volunteers on the night, as well as our instrumental team; Pri, Lewis, Marc, Nathan, Cheryl and Dylan, our classroom music teachers; Fionn, Elspeth and Alessandra, and a massive shout out to our Instrumental Coordinator; Sean Nihill, whose tireless efforts bring these concerts together!

I would also like to thank our Music Parents committee, Tracy, Sela, Mel, Mia, Liz, Hylton, Karl, Nikola, David, Justin, and all volunteers who pitched in on the night to help everything run smoothly. We are very grateful and lucky to have this committed team of parent volunteers (and of course, any parents who would like to join us are more than welcome! Please email musicparents@thornburyhs.vic.edu.au).

We look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming THS Performing Arts events. Mark your calendars for:

VCE MUSIC:

What a cracking start to the year for our VCE Music Performance students who have hit the ground running, tackling challenging concepts in both aural and theoretical aspects of music. From mastering intricate rhythms to diving deep into our key signatures and intervals, our students are showing incredible dedication and passion.

Recently, these students had the opportunity to attend an unforgettable excursion featuring Giacomo Puccini's opera favorites performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It was an incredible night filled with breathtaking music.

The end-of-year performance examinations seem like a long way away, but our students have been putting in the hard work, dedicating extra time to rehearsals and fine-tuning their performances. Their commitment and determination are truly commendable for this early in the year, and we're confident they'll shine brightly when the time comes.

Thanks to everyone for joining our much-anticipated Strawbale Concert on Tuesday 26 March. These talented students showcased their skills and passion for music at this special event - if you haven’t seen the highlights video, you’ll be impressed to hear our VCE students playing the track!

Legends!

YEAR 7 & 8 MUSIC - Term 1, so far

It’s been a very busy scene in and around the Performing Arts building this term, as, in addition to the normal band & ensemble rehearsals, many Year 7 and 8 students are coming in at breaks and after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to complete their music practice videos.

Personally, the other afternoon, I went into a room to break up what I thought was an unofficial student party and it turned out they were all recording each other completing their practice homework!! Many students are also taking their instruments home and we hope families are enjoying hearing these children gradually improving. If possible, it’s great to have the instrument sitting somewhere [safely of course] where students can maybe pick it up as they’re walking past and just play for a bit, just for the fun of it.

My favourite concert of the year, the school’s Strawbale Concert was a smash hit! All the hard work of the year 7 students is absolutely paying off!

We enjoyed meeting so many of you there on the night and, as always, if you have any questions about instruments, please feel free to contact your child’s instrumental teacher via Compass.
