STEM
Learning for this Term
The Grade One and Two students have been exploring biology. Last week they focused on the needs of a plant. Students used this knowledge to make a prediction on what might happen to a plant grown in different conditions. For example, grown in sad, fed coloured water or live in the shade. This week students have moved onto pollination. This topic has seen students make a pollinator.
Clean Up Australia Day
Can you imagine the good we could do, if all of Australia came together on one day and took practical action to improve the environment? What a difference we could make! On Sunday 3 March is Clean Up Australia Day.
On this day people collect rubbish and clean up the environment. As it is on a weekend we will be doing some activities on clean up Australia Day on March 15th.
On this day we would love to take part in some activities that help promote taking care of the environment. This could include sorting your rubbish or limiting how much technology you are using.
Nude Food Friday
On Friday Miss Middlin will be running a Nude Food competition. This competition is aiming to promote sustainability across the school. Nude Food is simply food that is not wrapped in foil, plastic or commercial packaging.
On Friday selected students will be allocated a time to survey classes to see how many have brought Nude Food to school.
The class with the most students with the most Nude Food will receive the Nude Food Medal for the week. Last week’s winners were 2CV!
Every fortnight we will be having a STEM question for students to answer. The questions will be posted in the school's newsletter. These questions will not be compulsory, but will be a bit of fun and a challenge for students.
Students can write their answer on a piece of paper and place it in the appropriate box inside the STEM room. At the end of the week Miss Middlin will do a lucky dip and select one student from Prep- 2 will receive a small science related prize.
This week’s question is found below.
What animals or insects can help with pollination?
