Year One Choir - Waltzing Matilda - Rich Literacy Learning

Learning songs such as Waltzing Matilda is not only enjoyable, it achieves many reading attributes and skills. Comprehension of the story, expanded vocabulary and exploring meanings of new words and concepts, repeated reading for fluency and phrasing and the need for accuracy for performance.  It is such a joy to see the connections to learning our year one students are making and their diligence in learning this song and finally their excellent performance at assembly this week. There is more to come as they build their rich reading and performing repertoire... Thanks to Kyle who passed on the video and also to Mrs Coutts for the accompaniment.

Our New Artwork - Thank you

Grade 1 students love our new artwork

Brighton Beach Primary School would like to say a huge thank you to Kerry who lives in Windermere Cres and very kindly donated this beautiful Contemporary Indigenous artwork to our school. The students have been admiring it during Visual Art classes and talking about the symbols and meaning behind it and we can’t wait to put it up on a wall for everyone to enjoy! Thank you Kerry for your generosity and for thinking of our school for this amazing artwork.

Congratulations to Vivi F!

The State Little Athletic Championships were held over the long weekend in the scorching heat. It didn’t stop Vivi though she became the State Championin 800m and 400m!  Also the state silver medalist in the 200m!   Super proud!

She also got 6th in the 100m

(Long jump - scratched due to injury and heat)

They don't do 1500m in her age group but she is looking forward to cross country.

A Surprise Visit to BBPS - The 2023 Premiership Cup

How lucky are we...Sia and Sammy's dad Dean works for Collingwood and was kind enough to bring in the 2023 Premiership Cup to show everyone. The last time a premiership cup came to BBPS was in 2016 when it was on its way from Mordialloc to the MCG in readiness for the AFL Grand Final between the Doggies and the Swans. Josh asked Dean a series of questions  to gain some insights into the personnel behind the scenes who are integral to the success of a club. This was followed by some brilliant questions from our students to learn more about the highs and the challenges faced by players.  It was very exciting to see the cup up close  and have the opportunity for photos.

Grades 1 and 2

Ray (2S): "I made a family tree. I wanted it to look very pretty. I put on the faces of my Dad, my Auntie, my Mum, my cousins and Grandma and Grandpa. I told the class all about my family tree and I was proud of myself."

Isabelle P (2S): " I really enjoyed making a poster about my family. I loved making my family tree because it took a long time to make it. There were lots of people on my family tree. One photo we had showed all my uncles and great grandparents, and I spoke to Dad about who those people were and he helped me with the poster. "

Grades 5 and 6

Milo (6C): "We went to the Dream and Lead conference about leadership and different ways to be a good leader. We met a footy player called Trent Dennis-Lane, who spoke to us about how he became a football player and his journey through life. I found it really interesting and I will really try hard to use some of the things I learnt in my role as a leader at BBPS."
