Do Students Stop Learning Over the Holidays?
Term 1 has been amazing term of learning for students! Understandably they (and their parents) will be looking forward to the change of routine that holidays bring, whether you are heading away or staying put. Holidays are a chance to relax, re-charge our batteries and just do something different or differently.
Learning doesn't just happen in the classroom, of course. Even over the holidays, consider all that your child does as learning. Some really good examples include:
- reading for pleasure - take a trip to any public library and borrow some books (Ballarat's Central Library is due to re-open over the holidays, after an extensive re-furbishment)
- cooking/baking - that's reading, following instructions and maths all in one!
- making a shopping list - perhaps for the cooking/baking
- playing a board game
- playing a card game
- writing a letter/email to a family member
- venturing into the outdoors, discovering something new in nature, building a piece of art from nature materials.
There's always Pyjama Day and watching a movie together and talking about what happened in the movie. Which character did you like and why? What rating would you give it?
Even though it is the last week of the term, classrooms are busy learning!
Regardless of what you do in the holidays we wish you and you child a restful and enjoyable break and look forward to seeing you in Term 2!
