Number & Algebra   I   Measurement & Shape  I   Statistics & Probability

In Mathematics, we will develop students' fluency, reasoning and understanding through the following areas:

Number - At the beginning of the term we will be using a range of strategies to apply mathematical modelling to solve practical problems involving division. We will learn about representing unit fractions and their multiples in different ways, as well as combining fractions to make a whole. We will investigate the connection fractions have to decimals and percentages. Towards the end of term we will learn about the relationships between dollars and cents and represent money values in different ways.

Algebra - We will be looking at related and inverse equations that have a focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, whilst exposing students to everyday life scenarios.

Measurement  - We will be identifying angles as measures of turn and use rightacute and obtuse angles as a reference to compare angles in everyday situations using a range of different practices that include iPads.

Space - We will be creating 2-dimensional representations of different areas around the school using locational language, including directions.

Statistics  - We will be creating and interpreting displays of data using lists, tables and graphs. We will utilise real life data sets by recording and analysing results.

Probability - We will be conducting repeated chance experiments; identify and describe possible outcomes, record the results, and recognise and discuss the variation.

Problem-Solving will be incorporated regularly throughout all Mathematics areas to provide students with the opportunity to build on their own understanding and strategy use as well as refine their abilities to justify and explain solutions.
