Positive Self-Talk

When we talk to ourselves in a positive way, we can make a huge difference in how we feel. Positive self-talk can also help children to build self-esteem and confidence. When children learn to give themselves positives, they may be more likely to keep trying even when things don’t work out the way they planned the first time or to try new things that they feel nervous about.

Quite often we see children give up on themselves too quickly because they allow their inner voice to take control. At St Mary's, we refer to this as Head Hassler thinking. It takes a lot of hard work to push those thoughts aside and allow our Mind Master thoughts to come through.

Mind Master thinking replies on positive self-talk which is our internal narrative switching to ideas like ‘I can try better next time’ or ‘I choose to learn from my mistakes, not be held back by them.”

Recently we have celebrating some special events at St Mary's including Parish Sports, Book Week parade,  Confirmation, science experiments, just to name a few. During these experiences, we have witnessed students demonstrating grit and determination, digging deep into their bank of resilience to really try their best!

Our NEW Take a Break Space

At St Mary’s, we understand that regular breaks can reduce or prevent stress, help to maintain performance throughout the day and reduce the need for a long recovery at the end of the day. We value the use of our classroom Take a Break spaces, but recognise that sometimes, students need an extra break, away from their peers. We are excited to begin utilising our NEW Take a Break Space located in the Discovery Room. If you haven't seen it already, please pop in and spend some time in this little sanctuary.
