Year Three
Spotlight on Learning
Ephesus Community
Dear Families,
We’ve had a lovely start to Term 3 and are now settling into Week 2. Students are quickly getting back into their routines and showing a positive attitude towards their learning. It’s been great to see them reconnect with classmates and engage in new learning experiences.
Religious Education
This week in Religious Education, we are learning about the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and how each Person supports us in unique ways. We are exploring how God calls us to care for others and the world through Catholic Social Teaching. Students are also creating their Fuel for the Journey booklets to reflect on how God strengthens and guides us in our daily lives.
Maths
In our second week students have been working on multiplication and division using arrays and number lines to visualise equal groups and repeated addition while solving word problems that require using what they already know to find new answers.
Students have been modelling multiplication facts and then using those facts to solve related division problems, comparing strategies and explaining how they know their answers are right.
These activities help them see how repeated addition and sharing connect to multiplication and division and build confidence in working with equal groups both forwards (multiplying) and backwards (dividing).
In Week 3 we will be looking at addition and subtraction.
English
As we read The Iron Man, students have been practising their note-taking skills by identifying key details to support their Information Report on iron. In reading, we have been focusing on using the correct homophones in sentences and using Colourful Semantics to help identify the main parts of a sentence. Students have also worked on enhancing their writing by adding adjectives and replacing simple verbs with more interesting ones. This week, they began drafting the first paragraph of their Information Report.
AUSLAN
In Auslan, Year 3 students are learning that some verbs can be signed in different ways to clearly show how an action is performed. They are focusing on exploring the different verb forms for actions like ‘open’ and ‘put on’, depending on the context.
Social/Emotional Learning (SEL) & Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships and Building Respectful Relationships (RRRR)
This week in SEL / RRRR, we are exploring how male and female characters are portrayed in traditional fairy tales and modern children's stories. Year 3's are learning to describe and compare the roles these characters are given. They are also beginning to identify the gender messages these stories send to readers.
Integrated Learning
This week, students are learning how to make a healthy lunchbox. By the end of the week, they will be able to choose one healthy item, build a balanced lunchbox, and explain why their choices support a healthy body and mind.
