Year Five

Spotlight on Learning

Bethany Community

Dear Bethany Families,

What a great week the students have had in Year 5. They are excited about the upcoming Australian Mathematics' competition where they can demonstrate their Mathematical prowess. The students have been working on the School expectation of 'turn and talk' and are able to demonstrate their ability to discuss a topic with a partner quickly and efficiently. A reminder that school photos are on Wednesday 6th of August. Please ensure the students have a neat and clean uniform and are ready for their biggest smile.

Next week we will be learning about...

Religious Education Focus:

Children will be learning what “fuel for the soul" means and explore what their personal and spiritual needs are. They will examine how prayer connects us to inner strength and purpose.

English Focus

Students will continue reading 'Tom Appleby Convict Boy' by Jackie French. The students are enjoying the story of Tom which is set in 1700 England. In English the students will continue to analyse the vocabulary in the text as well as adding to their writing of an Information Report. The focus next week will be on body paragraphs using the SPO (Single Paragraph Outline).

Mathematics Focus

The students have completed their unit on fractions and are moving into their understanding of decimals. The children will be rounding decimals, partitioning decimals as well as renaming decimal numbers.

Auslan Focus

Next week we will be looking at Unit 6C which includes the signs for Mum, Dad, Sister, Brother, Step Brother, Half brother and My family.

Social/ Emotional Learning Focus:

Next week students will be looking at gender and equality of opportunity. The children will be looking at data which provides examples of the ways gender norms can lead to limiting or harmful outcomes.

Integrated Studies:

This week the children explored what contributed to their identities. Next week the children will be examining the impact of celebrating strengths and differences rather than comparing with each other.
