Prep: Our Prep students have been exploring the world of solfege, learning to sing using hand signs and pitch names. They are developing control over their singing voices through games, songs, and listening activities. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence and musical awareness grow each week.

Grade 1 & 2: Grade 1 and 2 students have been getting hands-on with percussion instruments, learning to keep a steady beat and play simple rhythmic patterns. They've also been introduced to the djembe drum, discovering how to make different sounds and play together as an ensemble. Their rhythmic coordination and listening skills are really coming along.

Grade 3 & 4: This term, Grade 3 and 4 have started learning how to play the ukulele. They've been focusing on basic chords, strumming patterns, and playing simple songs. Students are gaining confidence with tuning and handling the instrument while learning to play in time with each other.

Grade 5 & 6: Grade 5 and 6 students are developing their guitar skills, learning how to play basic chords and accompany simple melodies. They’ve been working on correct finger placement and strumming technique. It’s exciting to see their progress as they begin to play familiar tunes with growing independence.

P.E.

Preps – Grade 2

Our youngest students are beginning a Gymnastics unit, developing balance, coordination, and body control. They’ll practice basic shapes (straight, tuck, star), simple rolls, safe landings, and movement patterns across mats and low equipment. This unit builds strength, flexibility, and confidence while encouraging creativity and safe movement in a fun and supportive environment.

Grade 3 & 5

Students are focusing on Soccer and Netball, building sport specific skills such as passing, shooting, and positional play. They are learning strategies for teamwork, space awareness, and defensive play. Modified games are helping develop decision making and sportsmanship while keeping lessons active and enjoyable. Students are encouraged to apply these skills in game situations with a focus on improvement.

Grade 4 & 6

Our Grade 4 and 6 students are focused on Soccer and a variety of team games. Soccer lessons include dribbling, passing, shooting, and tactical play. In games units, students practice communication, teamwork, and adaptability across a range of fun activities. This combination helps develop both individual sporting skills and the ability to work well with others.

Grade 5 Sport

Grade 5 Sport continues with students rotating through a new set of activities each week, including AFL, Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee, and Dodgeball. This rotation keeps students engaged and builds diverse skills from ball handling and striking to teamwork and quick decision-making. It’s a chance to try new sports, challenge themselves, and work together in different settings.

Grade 6 Sport

Grade 6 students have begun their interschool matches, representing the school with pride. They’re applying skills learned in training to real game situations, showing teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. Later this term, they will compete in the Lightning Premiership. A full day competition against local schools, offering a great opportunity for challenge, fun, and building connections with peers.

Visual Art

With the beginning of a new semester Visual Arts has begun with four new grade levels. We are saying goodbye to Prep, one and two for this year and hello to all the grade three, four, five and sixes.

Naturally with this change the display boards will soon be showing some brand-new art works from these older grades. Their first art works for the term should be completed in the coming weeks so keep a lookout.

Currently grade 6 are busy with their maps of Australia, taking some inspiration from NAIDOC plus their own heritage, that combined, makes them uniquely Australian.

Grade 5 are working with clay to create curious little slab pots with a Mexican flare.

Meanwhile, grade 4 are busy constructing and painting face masks with a few 3D elements.

And grade 3 have just begun a unit of work based on Japanese Koi fish windsocks.

So, it is go, go, go. Can’t wait for the end results.

Just a final note, because we value our students’ uniforms, parents please do your best to find an art smock for your child.

Thank you,
