Year 6

Reading

This week in Reading we have been immersing ourselves in how First Nations Australians use the night sky, making strong links between science and culture. Students enjoyed practising sky gazing at school and we encourage families to continue this at home by looking at the stars together in the evenings. We also made Indigenous shelters to consolidate our knowledge and were lucky to enjoy some beautiful sunshine while creating our structures outside.

Writing

In Writing, we celebrated finishing our explanation texts. The focus has been on editing and revising to improve clarity and precision. Students published their final pieces using Canva, including annotated diagrams to support their explanations.

Mathematics

Our Maths sessions have been full of energy as we worked on solving percentage discount problems and converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages. Students have been using a variety of strategies and are building confidence in applying these skills to real-life situations.

Wellbeing

We concluded our three-part unit on Fuelling, Resting and Moving Our Bodies Mindfully. Students reflected on the importance of taking care of their bodies before beginning our next focus: Comparison and Gratitude. This unit will help students develop positive self-awareness and appreciation for themselves and others.

Athletics

A huge well done to all students who participated in the interschool athletics carnival in Bendigo. Despite the cold weather, there was an incredible show of determination, teamwork and school pride, a fantastic effort by everyone involved!
