Year 4/5

Since last newsletter, our 45 Unit students embarked on an immersive swimming and water safety experience at the Sports & Aquatic Centre in Kyneton. The week began with a thoughtful pre-visit, during which students familiarised themselves with some local swimming spots, facilities, and basic safety protocols—particularly important in preparing for the focus of the week: keeping safe in our local waterways. Throughout the week, students built confidence and practical knowledge through lessons in key rescue and survival skills such as “reach-or-throw, don’t go,” treading water, floating, and safe assists with flotation aids in simulated scenarios. With experienced instructors guiding them, students left the week feeling more capable, aware, and ready to respond responsibly in and around water. We also developed our techniques for placing tight swimming caps on our heads.
