ALL THINGS HOCKEY!!
The second half of this term we have all moved on to one of the best sports ever…HOCKEY!! From Prep to Year 6, all students are learning the rules, skills and safety needed to play this awesome game. The Preps are learning indoor hockey and are using the modified sticks and balls to ensure they not only learn to play but to keep themselves and their classmates safe.
From Year 1-6, we are playing Field Hockey with the wooden hockey sticks and standard hockey balls. I’ve also purchased a class set of shin pads as we all know there’s nothing worse than a hit in the shins with a hard ball or stick…or anything really! I’ve been impressed so far, not only with the eagerness to learn another new sport but how everyone is following the rules and remaining safe throughout all the drills. Next week (weather depending) we will start to play full games on the oval, using all of the new skills learned over the last couple of weeks.
In Health class, Preps-3 have been focusing on Healthy Lifestyle and Eating, learning about the food groups and some of the functions of our organs such as heart, lungs and kidneys. It’s been really fun, and the kids are learning so much.
Year 4-6 are looking at Positive Body Image, an incredibly important topic particularly as kids get older and external influences can begin to shape how they see themselves. We are having some great conversations, and the students have been really brave in sharing some of their own experiences. I continue to encourage all students to have conversations at home with their families around this topic, it’s so important!
One final thing… we attempted to do some yoga this week! For the most part it was fantastic, the students seemed to find their calm which they hopefully took back to class with them!
