STEM

As usual the term is flying past us at great speeds and before you know it we are already more than halfway through the term!
Our Family Science and Maths night is coming up in a couple of weeks and judging by the success of last year's event, this one is shaping up to be even better! It would be great to see as many families as possible come and join in the fun.
The senior students have been working away in their classroom economies, with businesses being created and the realities of budgeting in everyday expenses like food, transport and rent has given some students a monetary wakeup call! It has been so great to see the entrepreneurship of many of these students, taking responsibility for earning their own income.
The Preps and Year 1s have been looking at all the different ways we can measure things, using unifix blocks, links and this week using some more formal units in the way of rulers, both 30cm and metre rulers. Our 2/3 classes have been cracking out their calculators and planning celebrations using a budget - some harsh realities were discovered when 'shopping' for their desired party supplies with a limited budget.
Over the next few weeks for our Prep-3 classes we will be looking at angles and mazes as we make some marble runs. Our senior students will continue on using the Banqer program and at the conclusion of the term, we will hold a class raffle with the money they have been contributing into their superannuation accounts.
