Year 3

Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes
In English, Year 3 have been reading the book 'Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes'. The book is based on the real events of Sadako, 10 years after the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and is set in Japan.
To help the students understand about the culture and important parts of Japanese peoples lives Year 3 were lucky enough to have Chad and Koji visit them on Friday. Koji was born in Japan and lived there for most of his life before moving to Australia. Both, Chad and Koji have recently been to Japan and were able to share some of their experiences with the students.
They spoke about the traditions of Japan and focussed on the Children's Peace monument that was erected after Sadako's death. They shared videos of students visiting the monument and singing as they brought 1000 paper cranes to the monument.
