Religious Education Focus:
This week in Religion, we looked at how we can become, or are, Stewards of Nature. We looked at Recycling, Reducing and Reusing household items as away of helping nature.
English focus:.
This week we read an award winning Book Week book, A Garden of Broken things. Students loved the images in this book and how we can show kindness to others. Connected to our Inquiry question we also read a Non-Fiction book " Get a Good Night's sleep" as a way of understanding the importance of getting enough sleep.
Phonics: During phonics this week we learnt how to spell words a_e, a sounds, similar to ai and ay.
Mathematics focus: This week we have begun investigating patterns within our number systems. Things like what happens when I skip count by 2s, 5s or 10s from any given number, or what happens when I double a number.
If you are interested in additional practice at home, a PAID app we would recommend is Zero Our Hero. It's an educational Mathematics app focused on helping primary‑school students understand whole‑number place value.
SEL: This week learnt about what 'Gender Fair' means and how we can be respectful of what others would like to do regardless of their gender..
Integrated Curriculum: Personal, Social and Community Health
As part of building independence, we practised a range of skills that an year 1 students should know how to complete independently. The kids are ready to show off their laundry folding, tidying up skills to you! So please give them these jobs to do at home.

Ways to engage with the newsletter:
Read or watch the weekly book with your child at home (there is often a read aloud on you tube). Talk about what the book's most important ideas are.
Ask your child to retell the story using their own words.
Talk about who the characters are, where the story is happening.
Use the spelling words provided to make up sentences at home or simply have a 5 word mini dictation.
Take the idea around Mathematics and ask students to repeat an activity they did at school, with you.
Please ensure students have a jumper or sports jackets for outside play for Term 3.
Final call for the questionnaire and baby photo please.
A change of clothes to be placed in each child's bag (including socks, underwear or tights) in case of an accident.
