Dear Families,
What a wonderful week we’ve had in Year 6!
This week began with the excitement of our Book Week Parade. It was fantastic to see all our students dressed up as their favourite book characters, showing such creativity and enthusiasm. Thank you to families for supporting this special event – it truly brought the joy of reading to life.
Last Saturday, some of our Year 6 students celebrated their Confirmation. A huge congratulations to those students on taking this important step in their faith journey.
We also finished the week with the District Athletics Carnival. Our students represented our school with determination, great effort, and wonderful sportsmanship. Their hard work and teamwork made us very proud.
Looking ahead, next Wednesday 27th August, Year 6 will be participating in the Elephant Ed Incursion. This session will focus on puberty, including the changes the body goes through, to help prepare our students with knowledge and confidence.
This week we learnt about...
Religious Education Focus:
We deepened our understanding of the Sacrament of the Eucharist, making connections to Passover and retelling the events of the Last Supper in our own words. Students reflected on how the Eucharist links to Jesus’ final meal with his disciples.
English Focus:
Reading:
Students completed a comprehension assessment on our novel Once (we are now halfway through the book). They also continued practising their fluency and building deeper comprehension through small focus groups.
Writing:
In Writing, students completed an assessment task on relative clauses and continued refining their paragraph writing. They focused on using strong vocabulary, connectives, adjectives, and relative clauses to improve the flow of their writing.
Mathematics Focus:
In Mathematics, our focus has been on operations and problem-solving. Students explored different strategies and enjoyed hands-on activities through games and worded problems.
Integrated Studies Focus:
In Integrated Studies, we focused on recognising our own strengths and understanding how our differences make our class a stronger, more respectful community.
SEL Focus:
Students explored how gender roles have changed over time and how expectations are passed on. They reflected on respectful ways to respond to strengths in themselves and others.
Auslan Learning Focus
In Auslan, students were assessed on Unit 6, showing their understanding of how to sign a short story. They demonstrated the ability to show a character’s actions and communicate a range of thoughts while undertaking a signed activity.
Kind regards,
The Year 6 Team
