Principal's Report

Comedy Night
Last Friday we held our annual Comedy Night. As always it was a great night with lots of laughs. It was good to have so many members of our school community come along to enjoy a fantastic evening.
Huge thanks to our wonderful Jason Sofra for once again organising such a great event for our parent and friends. Due to Jason’s connections in the comedian fraternity, we were able to get four very well-known comedians Bron Lewis, Tom Ballard, Tom Gleeson, and Adam Rozenbachs. They were all very entertaining and definitely very funny!
I have to say a special thank you to the staff who helped set up, served behind the bar, and helped to pack up. Without your help, the night would not have been such a success.
Pupil Free Day
On Monday August 18th we are having Pupil Free day. The staff will be undertaking professional learning relating to the English and Mathematics 2.0 Curriculum and the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model. The day will be a very busy one for staff.
Please remember no children should attend school on the day unless they are booked into the OSHC program.
150 Year Celebration
We have lots planned for our 150 year celebration on Sunday September 14th. We now need support from the school community to help out on the day. Soon we will be sending out a link for families to sign up to help on the day.
We need help!
- Making some scones for the Devonshire Tea
- Making baked items for the cake stall
- Supervising some of the children’s activities
- Helping out on the cake stall and with the Devonshire tea
- Selling commemorative tea towels
Be on the look out for the signup sheets which will be out soon.
We need YOU to help us make our 150 year celebration a great success!
Commemorative bricks will also be available. More information on how to design and order bricks will be available soon.
WOW Days
Last term we promoted WOW (Walk or Wheel to School) Days every Friday in conjunction with the Darebin Council. Every student who walked or wheeled to school received a mark on their grade's tally sheet.
At the completion of Term 2 the grades with the largest number of students who walked or wheeled to school were PAA Miss Aimee’s grade at the Junior School and 6AA Craig’s grade at the Senior School. Both grades won a Golden Boot that they can display in their classrooms. They also received a pizza lunch for their grade which was heartily enjoyed!
Due to the great response to the WOW days, we will continue to promote the benefits of walking or wheeling to school and encourage children to walk or wheel to school every day.
Book Week
Next week is Book Week, which is promoted by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. The week is aimed at focusing on children’s literature and celebrating Australian authors. This year the theme of the event is “Book an Adventure”.
To celebrate Book Week, we have a jam-packed Whole School Event Day planned for next Thursday August 21st. The children can come dressed as their favourite book character. Information about the day has been sent out to families via Compass.
Items On The School Roof
We often have items that end up on the School roof. While it is mainly balls, there are times when it has been a shoe or jumper.
In accordance with the Education Department policy, staff members are not permitted to climb on the roof to retrieve any items. If the item can be retrieved by using a long pole we will attempt to get it down. If not, unfortunately it will have to stay on the roof until the company come to clean the gutters.
Parents - please remind your children that if they bring a ball to school and it is kicked up on to the roof, we will not be getting it down.
The most important thing we need to do is maintain a safe work environment for the staff.
Athletic Sports
Tomorrow we have 47 very keen athletes going to the Coburg Athletics track to compete in the District Athletic sports. We wish them all the very best and hope they have a successful and enjoyable day.
Preps 2026
We have recently sent out first round offers to the families for whom we are the closest school and the families who already have a child enrolled at Preston to confirm that their prep child will be attending in 2026.
If you have a child who will be starting school in 2026 and you have not enrolled them, please do so as soon as possible.
Regards
Janet Paterson,
Principal.
