Rugby Academy Update

Our Rugby Academy teams have been hard at work on the field, and their recent performances have given us plenty to be proud of!

The Girls Rugby Team recently took on Sunshine and Footscray in two tough Rebel Shield matches. While wins were not recorded, the improvement in teamwork, skills, and on-field confidence has been nothing short of impressive. We are confident that wins are just around the corner for this squad. Keep pushing, girls!

Meanwhile, our Under 16 and Under 18 Boys Teams have wrapped up their second round-robin days, showcasing some exceptional rugby and school spirit.

The Under 16s notched up strong wins over Melton, Sunshine, narrowly falling short against The Grange in a thrilling and hard-fought match.

The Under 18s were a force to be reckoned with, going undefeated through their pool matches. A standout performance came in their highly anticipated clash against The Grange, where they dominated with a  24–0 victory.

Their focus now shifts to the Rebel Shield Final, set to take place in approximately three weeks – stay tuned for more details!

Go Lara! 💪💙

Cricket Academy Update

Our Winter Indoor Program is now in full swing with both the Senior and Junior Cricket

Academy enjoying competitive indoor cricket matches at Nimble Hits Indoor Stadium. While the basics of batting, bowling and fielding are applicable across this format, learning to improvise by working different angles with the bat, changing the pace while bowling or reacting quickly to the ball rebounding off the nets when fielding is a valuable skillset.

Likewise, executing skills under the pressure of ‘friendly’ competition and scored match-play also helps build confidence, resilience, and belief in preparation for outdoor cricket schedule next term.

Alongside the indoor cricket experience, students have also been training at Geelong Regional Cricket Centre. Here, local specialist coach, Jake Brown, has been working with individuals on improving their batting skillset and technique - providing an insight into cricket at the highest level in Geelong. Our spin and medium-pace bowlers will also have access to specialist coaching tips over the coming weeks.

Finally, during a recent theory class, Year 9 students were asked to articulate a personal highlight and set a goal for the remaining weeks of term. In response, Jaxon (9C) says ‘a personal highlight was being coached by Jake Brown and my goal is to hit a six and score 25 runs during our last game of indoor cricket’. According to Kirra (9A), ‘learning how to play indoor cricket has been a very good experience and my goal is to continue practicing and get ready for outdoor competition’.

Likewise, Archer (9C) has enjoyed the indoor cricket matches and been quite surprised by his bowling performances. He says, ‘my goal for the next few weeks in to continue improving my bowling and also work on my fielding - catching and throwing.’
